  3. Download the result When the status is ready, download the combined PDF.

Merge PDF is for joining contracts, receipts, notes or a file that arrived as several documents. On ToolZen, page order is the order in which you upload the files: the first one stays at the start, the last one at the end. We do not reorder pages inside each file and we do not recode the content to “improve” it.

The guest plan allows between two and twenty PDFs per job, with a 25 MB cap per file and a job cap that avoids loading dozens of megabytes into memory at once. If a file is not a real PDF — even if the extension says otherwise — it is rejected before processing. An empty PDF does not pass either.

If something fails during processing, you will see a clear error message, without internal technical details.

The result is a single downloadable PDF while guest temporary retention lasts (half an hour). Then it is deleted. There is no document library, no accounts and no permanent public link. Input files are removed when processing finishes, whether it went well or badly.

Typical uses: join both sides of a scanned ID, attach annexes to a contract, or pack several receipts for a filing. It is not meant for password-encrypted PDFs or for hundreds of files at once. If you need a range, use split PDF; if the file is too heavy to send, try compress PDF knowing there is no guaranteed reduction percentage.

Common mistakes: uploading a JPG renamed to .pdf, mixing a damaged PDF with valid ones, or trying to merge more than twenty files. In those cases the system rejects the job or marks it failed. Processing happens on ToolZen, not on an external converter.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

How many PDFs can I merge at once?

Up to 20 files per job, with a maximum of 25 MB each on the guest plan.

Does merging reduce quality?

We do not recode pages to merge them: they are concatenated. The result is a PDF with the pages of each file, in order.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The current flow works as a guest, with no sign-in.

How long does the merged PDF stay available?

The result is stored temporarily and deleted when job retention expires. It is not published or indexed.

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

No. If the file is encrypted or not a real PDF, the job is rejected or fails. There is no password field.
