Compress a PDF online
Reduce a PDF’s size to send or archive it. There is one stable profile: you do not pick low/medium/high. On large documents the process may take longer than merge or split.

How it works
- Select a PDF Choose the file you want to compress.
- Process the PDF Submit the job and wait for compression to finish.
- Download the result When the job finishes, download the compressed PDF.
Compressing a PDF rewrites the document with a fixed profile. We do not promise the smallest possible file or several quality levels: the goal of this version is a reasonable, predictable result.
There is a maximum wait time. If the file is too complex, the job may fail on time. Sometimes a PDF that is already optimized barely slims down, or barely changes. Success is a valid downloadable PDF, not a guarantee of fewer bytes. As with the other tools, the result expires with guest retention.
The guest limit is 25 MB per file. There is no page crop and no “smart compression” that strips attachments. The PDF is not sent to an external service. If what you need is one image per page, use PDF to JPG, which rasterizes and has its own page cap. If what is heavy is a Word file, convert it to PDF first and then compress, knowing those are two distinct steps.
Typical errors: uploading a corrupt PDF, a file that only looks like a PDF from the extension, or an encrypted document. In those cases the job fails in a controlled way. The page does not show internal processing output or paths. The single profile exists so this tool does not become a lab of knobs; if another profile appears later, it will be published with its own measured behaviour.
Frequently asked questions
Are there several compression levels?
No. This version uses a single stable profile. There is no low, medium or high.
How large can the PDF be?
On the guest plan, 25 MB per file. A larger PDF is rejected before processing.
Is the compressed PDF always smaller?
It usually shrinks, but a file that is already light may barely change. Success means a valid PDF, not a fixed percentage.
Why does it take longer than merging PDFs?
Compression rewrites the document and can take longer on large files. There is a maximum processing time.
Is the file sent to an external service?
No. Processing happens on ToolZen. The result is not published and expires with temporary retention.
