Step by step

How it works

  1. Select a PDF Choose the file, select pages if you do not want to crop the whole document, and set the four margins in whole millimetres (0 to 200).
  2. Process the PDF Submit the job and wait for the crop to finish.
  3. Download the result Download the cropped PDF while temporary retention lasts.

Cropping a PDF removes strips on the four edges. On ToolZen the margins are whole millimetres: top, right, bottom and left, from 0 to 200. On each cropped page the origin is its own MediaBox, in the PDF coordinate system (origin at the bottom left).

You can crop the page you are viewing, a selection (for example pages 2, 5, 8 and 10) or the whole document. The same millimetre crop applies to the selected pages. Unselected pages are left unchanged. If you crop all pages, the crop is calculated from the first page’s MediaBox. If you crop a subset, each page uses its own size, so a Letter among A4 pages does not inherit another sheet’s coordinates.

Cropping 0 mm on all four sides does nothing useful and is rejected. A crop that leaves an area smaller than half an inch is also rejected. NaN, Infinity, negatives, page 0, pages out of range and duplicates do not pass.

One file, 25 MB, maximum time published on this page. The input is removed when it finishes; the result expires with guest retention.

If what you want is to rotate, use rotate PDF. If you want less weight without cropping, compress. We do not promise that mobile viewers “hide” content outside the CropBox the same way: the crop is a CropBox, not a rewrite of every page object.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

What units are the margins in?

Whole millimetres, from each edge of the MediaBox of each cropped page. We do not accept decimals, negatives, NaN or huge sizes.

Can I crop only some pages?

Yes. You can crop the current page, a selection (for example only page 10 of a ten-page PDF) or all pages. The same millimetre crop applies to the selected pages; the rest are left unchanged.

Why can it take longer than rotating pages?

Cropping rewrites the document and can take longer on large PDFs. There is a maximum processing time.

What if I crop too much?

If the remaining area is too small, the job is rejected. Cropping 0 mm on all four sides is also rejected: there is no empty crop.
