You can compress a PDF from your phone without installing apps: open the tool in the browser, pick the file and download the lighter version. Android and iPhone differ mainly in how you find the PDF and where the result is saved.
How to do it step by step
- Open the tool in the browserGo to compress PDF from Chrome, Safari or another phone browser. You do not need to install an app.
- Pick the PDFOn Android it is usually in Files, Downloads or Drive. On iPhone, in Files, Downloads or iCloud Drive.
- Download the resultWhen it finishes, save the compressed PDF. On iPhone, check the Files app if you do not see it in Downloads.
What changes on Android and iPhone
On Android, the file picker usually shows Downloads, the Files app and, if you have it, Google Drive. If the PDF arrived via WhatsApp or Gmail, download it to the phone first; otherwise it is harder to find.
On iPhone, Safari opens the Files picker. The PDF may be in Downloads, iCloud Drive or inside a mail app. After compressing, if you do not see the file, open it in Files: it sometimes does not appear on the browser’s downloads screen.
- On a slow connection, wait until the upload finishes before you close the tab.
- If they are photos of documents, turn them into PDF first and compress the result.
- To send it by email afterwards, lighten it with the attachment in mind, not only so it “fits on the phone”.
The compression profile is the same as on a computer. If you are worried about quality, follow how to reduce a PDF’s size without losing quality. Guest jobs have a per-file size limit; a huge scan may need splitting first.
