Unlock a PDF with your password
This tool unlocks a PDF when you know its password. It does not recover or break passwords. If the key is wrong, the job fails and there is no output file.
- No account needed
- Temporary result, expires on its own
- Processed on our servers

How it works
- Select the PDF Upload the encrypted file and type the password you already know.
- Process the PDF Submit the job with the correct password and wait for it to finish.
- Download the PDF If the key was correct, you download a PDF without user encryption, with the usual retention.
Removing a PDF’s key only works if you supply the correct password. There is no dictionary, no brute force, and the copy does not promise to “bypass” protection. If the key does not match, the job ends with a user error and no output artifact is created.
The password follows the same rules as when protecting: bounded length, no control characters, never persisted on the job or printed in exceptions. A failed attempt does not automatically retry with the same key: it either opens, or it fails.
One PDF, 25 MB. The encrypted original is deleted when it finishes; the open PDF, if generated, lasts for guest retention. There is no account. We do not store the key. Do not use this page for a file that is not yours or whose key you were not given.
The result, if it exists, is a PDF without user encryption. We do not repair a damaged file and we do not strip digital signatures. A PDF that is not encrypted, a corrupt one or one that is not a PDF is rejected or fails. To lock it again, use protect PDF. To merge or compress it, unlock it first: the other PDF tools do not open passworded documents.
Use cases: reopen a contract you yourself protected and whose key you remember, or a receipt sent to you with an agreed key. It is not a forensic recovery service. If you forgot the key, there is no internal process that returns it.
Frequently asked questions
Do you break forgotten passwords?
No. It only works with the key you provide. There is no dictionary and no brute force.
Is the password logged?
No. It is not stored on the job, in logs or in analytics. A wrong-key error does not include the text you typed.
Does it work on a PDF with no password?
If the file is not encrypted, processing may return the same document or fail. This page is meant for protected PDFs whose key you know.
Are there automatic retries?
No. A password failure ends the job. We do not chain attempts.
